Charity Gathambiri is a Senior Research Scientist at Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) with over 20 years vast experience in project conceptualization, planning and implementation. In 2024, Charity attained her doctorate degree in Food Science and Technology and has a Master of Science degree in Food Science and Technology.

Over the years Charity Gathambiri has coordinated several projects in design and execution focusing on enhanced livelihood of farmers and sustainable agriculture. In addition, she develops and implements monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks to measure projects progress and impact.

Some of the key research program include:

Development of Technology, Information, Management and Practices (TIMPs) and training manuals of banana, avocado, tomato, mango, kales and garden pea values chains under Kenya Climate Smart Agricultural Project (KCSAP) and being a master-trainer of the same in several counties of Kenya.

Oversee a project which entailed enhancement of banana productivity and commercialization in Kenya, a project funded by National Research Fund (NRF). The team was able to collect banana plantain germplasm from major growing regions of Kenya, select the promising varieties, characterize the cultivars and commercialize banana plantain in Kenya. The promotion was done through availing of clean planting materials of banana plantain, dissemination of agronomic packages and utilization technologies.

Currently Charity Gathambiri is the banana value chain lead in Kenya, under National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) funded by World Bank. The project aims at increase market participation and value addition in banana value chain in fourteen counties of Kenya.
